During World War II, this included such measures as a $5,000,000 Ukrainian-American war bond collection, organizing relief for Ukrainian war victims and refugees, rallying parishes and community centers to blood drives and promoting passage of the Displaced Persons Act of 1948. , which allowed more than 200,000 people to enter the United States, nearly half of whom were Ukrainians.
The UCCA carried out actions on a national scale before the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990 and carried out the first ever international election observation missions in an independent Ukraine. UCCA remains the only community-based organization to have sent a delegation of election observers to every presidential and parliamentary election in Ukraine, the largest of more than 2,500 observers during the historic Orange Revolution of 2004. UCCA provided direct assistance to address humanitarian challenges in Ukraine long before this latest Russian invasion.
