The 7th International Congress of the Society for Ethnopharmacology (2020) begins in Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. This high-level international conference is the mother of all meetings and perhaps the largest such gathering ever in India saw the presence of over 60 renowned speakers and approximately 1,700 delegates from 43 countries. Of the 60 speakers present at the event, 40 are Indian speakers.

The event is supported by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Department of Biotechnology, among others.

Vice Chancellor Dr Seyed Ehtesham Hasnain honored the occasion by highlighting the development of Unani medicine.

Unani medicine itself has been a syncretic science. It is important to recognize the value of Unani’s scientific approach, i.e. diagnostic, prognostic and holistic, with an overt syncretic development approach. Former DBT Secretary Dr Manju Sharma was also present and spoke about traditional medicines while Professor Asim Ali Khan, Director General of the Central Council for Unani Medicine Research (CCRUM) highlighted the scientific validation of medicines traditional regional traditions and their use around the world. in addition to deliberating on their regulatory aspects.

Congress Details

The congress will be held until February 17, 2020 and will focus on ethnopharmacology in the development of scientifically validated quality products from herbal and regulatory aspects and will highlight several crucial and contemporary issues of AYUSH ( Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) related to Ethnomedicine, Ethnopharmacology and Research on Medicinal Plants and aspects related to Regulation.

This event is a serious attempt to bring together leading scientists, teachers, practitioners, researchers, manufacturers, traditional healers and students related to AYUSH, traditional medicine, pharmacy and biological sciences from different corners of our country and abroad.

The platform will also give India the opportunity to showcase the potential of its AYUSH medicinal plants globally.

The program will include approximately nine keynote addresses and over 70 plenary lectures, over 40 short lectures and 40 Young Scientist Award lectures. In addition, nearly 100 oral presentations. Over 600 poster presentations will be made by young researchers, academics and post-doctoral fellows from around the world.

Traditional healers from across the country attend Congress

Exhibitions of various herbal manufacturing companies with various AYUSH clinics showcasing the Indian system of medicine were also held, which will be open to the general public during the three days.

Many traditional healers from Jharkhand, MP, Kerala and Tamilnadu also participated. The main attractions of the event are the Health Mela where visitors can benefit from a free consultation related to their health concerns by renowned experts in Ayurveda Vaidyas, Hakeem and other health experts representing traditional medicinal systems.

The SFE Herbal Industry Leader Award 2020 was awarded to KK Sharma, founder of AIMIL Pharmaceuticals (India) for his contribution in the field of herbal medicines as an industrialist, while the SFE Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Dr Nitya Anand in recognition of his role. in the discovery, design and development of herbal medicines.

The former secretary, the secretary of DBT, Dr Manju Sharma was also present and spoke about traditional medicines.

Knowledge of traditional medicine is often lost as it passes through generations and its preservation could be the key to meeting today’s medical challenges.
