Indian politician and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned as chairman of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
Sidhu shared a copy of his resignation letter, sent to Indian National Congress (INC) President Sonia Gandhi, on his official Twitter account.
According to Sidhu’s letter, he resigned “for the future and the well-being of the Indian Punjab”.
“The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromised corner, I can never compromise on the future of Punjab and the Punjab’s welfare agenda. Therefore, I am resigning from my post as chairman of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, ”the letter reads.
However, Sidhu said in the letter that he would “continue to serve” the party.
According to Indian media reports, some INC members argue that the reason for Sidhu’s resignation is his disappointment as to why his name was not suggested for the post of Chief Minister of the Punjab after the resignation of former Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh.
Reports also suggest that Sidhu may be appointed as chief minister of the Punjab this month.
