Haji Zakir Shaikh appointed secretary of Maharashtra Pradesh congressional committee
Yerwada, September 6, 2021: Social worker Dr Haji Zakir Shaikh (40), resident of Yerwada, has been appointed secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
The Secretary General of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), KC Venugopal, made the announcement recently at a press conference.
Dr Zakir said he will work to strengthen the Congress party at the local level.
With a doctorate in environmental science, Dr Zakir worked for six years as a member of the tree authority committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation. He was instrumental in verifying illegal logging, filing complaints against those affected, and conducting investigations against wandering government agents.
Dr Zakir is well known for his social work and has been awarded several times. During the Covid pandemic, it distributed ration kits, disinfectant, masks to the needy from its funds. He had also distributed dates during the month of Ramzan and dried fruits and shirkhurma kits for Eid.
Dr Zakir, who was previously part of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), joined Congress in 2018 with senior leader and former central minister Tariq Anwar and former chairman of the Maharashtra Minorities Commission Hakim Munaf. He has now been appointed a member of the MPCC.
He is also an Ambassador for World Peace and a member of the Board of Directors of Universal Peace Friendship And Brotherhood (UPFB). He is President of the Electronic Waste and International Environment Division at the Indo Global Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.
