Fr. Rajendra Prasad assumes the chairmanship of the Kollam District Congress Committee
He says the Congress party will reclaim its past glory and that the party and its nurturing organizations will be strengthened for that.
On Friday, Fr. Rajendra Prasad took office as the new chairman of the Kollam District Congress Committee (DCC).
“The Congress will regain its former glory and the party and its nurturing organizations will be strengthened for this. We are not starting from scratch, as two congressmen, PC Vishnunath and CR Mahesh, were elected to the Kollam Assembly after a long gap, Mr Prasad said after taking charge.
Urging party workers to come together, he said Congress is family and he is confident in the future of the party.
Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, who opened the event, said the new DCC chairman will lead the party without any discord. Mr. Prasad succeeds incumbent President Bindu Krishna, who ran in Kollam constituency in the last parliamentary elections.
Born in 1946, Mr. Prasad began his political career with the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and went on to work as Mandala Chairman of the Youth Congress, General Secretary of DCC and Chairman of the United Democratic Front (UDF) of Kunnathur constituency. He was also president of the Mynagappally grama panchayat and the Karunagapally block panchayat.
