Members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) committee for the Delta State Local Government Congress have arrived in Asaba for the fiscal year which is being held today (Saturday) September 4.
The seven-man committee headed by Mr. Matthew Omegara arrived Friday evening despite an alleged injunction granted by the Delta State High Court in Asaba, stopping congress in the state.
Speaking to some Delta APC leaders at the party secretariat, committee chairman Omegara said the APC was a law-abiding political party and would go ahead with Congress as planned.
He said the court’s ruling on the exparte motion had only prevented the chairman of the state’s interim committee from leading Congress.
“This committee is appointed by the national leadership, and the committee has no relation to the president of the state.
“I’m glad we’re all looking forward to the local government convention. As leaders, you must help us attract your followers.
“Our duty is to provide a level playing field to ensure that the convention goes off without a hitch.
“We will be working with people who will be appointed as supervisors and who we will monitor to make sure that the material is distributed to the different localities,” he said.
Omegara added that the committee arrived in Asaba late because they were waiting for documents before leaving Abuja.
